I apologize, I started this post on Wedly's birthday, but didn't finish it. Here it is, a few weeks later...
Our little Wedly is growing like a weed! Daily he exclaims "I'm tall!" or "I'm a big boy!" and his vocabulary continues to grow by leaps and bounds as well. He's now 41 pounds and 3 feet 4 inches tall (or so).
He loves: Playing baseball (and is really pretty talented, usually swinging left-handed, though sometimes with his right), playing piano, going to church, playing games (especially Matching and Candy Land), running around outside helping Daddy and mommy, baking with mommy, Boz the Bear, Trains, Exploring, swinging, his cousins, going to Grandma Betty's, pizza, the Zoo, going to basketball with daddy, popcorn, snuggling, "treats" and just in general being silly.
When he's about to try a new food, say for example Asparagus, he will explain "I LIKE asparagus!" He always has a positive attitude going into it, though he might change his mind after a few bites. He is still painfully slow at eating most things, but is making some progress. He is sleeping in his own room and still takes long afternoon naps. Whenever Dan comes home from work, he asks Wedly what he's done that day. Wedly enthusiastically tells him that he took a nap. A "long, long nap". He never seems to remember anything else that we've done, even if it is something exciting like going to the zoo. I can hear myself in so much of what he says. He'll often say to me "Mommy, I just don't understand what you're saying" which is something I've said to him probably thousands of times, poor little guy. I've also heard him say things like "Oh shoot!" and "phooey!!!" which are things that come out of my mouth fairly frequently. It cracks me up and makes me realize that I really need to be careful of what I say.
Yesterday morning Wedly sat down for breakfast and exclaimed "I'm happy, mommy!". I asked him why he was so happy, to which he replied "because of Jesus!" This just about melted my heart.
For his birthday, we had a dinosaur themed party and invited the family over for some fun. He had such a blast and has talked about it to anyone willing to listen. Here are a few pictures from the big day.
Sweet Wedly, you are 4 years old today and your daddy and I are so thankful that we get to celebrate this birthday with you. Two years ago tomorrow we found out officially that you were our son. What a special day that was, one of the best days of my life! Oh how we wanted to celebrate your third birthday with you...we thought we might, but it just wasn't in God's timing. This fact makes it that much more special that we get to celebrate #4 with you! We feel so honored that God called us to be your mommy and daddy and pray every single day that you will know and feel our love to the very core of your being. And we pray most of all that you will know, love and follow Jesus for the rest of your life. Life has not been easy for you, kiddo. In fact, it's been downright difficult as you've had more pain and loss in your life than I can even begin to fathom. Oh how I wish I could take that pain away. I wish I could have carried you in my tummy and loved on you from the moment you took your first breath. I wish I could have kissed your sweet, gooey face, felt you skin against mine and fed you that first meal. I wish for all these things, but also know that God has a perfect plan for your life and he doesn't make mistakes. And I'm so glad that your Memoise was able to experience the joy of you. Her life was tough too...impoverished, hungry, extremely sick...but I have no doubt that you brought her great joy and were the apple of her eye. She loved you - I know this, and she too prayed for your future with great hopes and dreams. I don't know what your future holds, but just thinking of the possibilities makes me excited. Wherever he leads you, whether it be here close to home or in Haiti or anywhere else in the world, your daddy and I will be right behind you cheering you on. No doubt there will be difficult days ahead (just as there already has been), but at the end of each day I hope you will know that you have a forever family that will love you for always and a God who will never leave or forsake you.We love you, sweetie, always and forever.
